BOTANICAL INFO

Botanical Name: Viburnum opulus

Part Used: Bark ♦

Fresh/Dry: Fresh

Cramp Bark has been discontinued due to difficulties in sourcing this wildcrafted herb. . David Winston’s substitute for Cramp Bark is Black Haw, a closely related botanically, chemically and virtually identical medicinally herb.  David says “Based on my clinical experience and that of the Eclectic Physicians, Black Haw is slightly stronger as an antispasmodic.  I definitely prefer it.  It is funny that Cramp bark got the common name based on this usage when for most of the 1830s- 1940s, Black Haw was definitely the preferred species.”
